Mr. Jonathan Cook – Chairman at African Management Initiative was a keynote speaker at the Institute of Human Resource Management, (IHRM) monthly forum held on 22nd September 2016. Over 300 HR practitioners attended the event at Nairobi Safari Club.
The main topic of discussion was based on the Training Talent Report we launched in partnership with IHRM in July 2016. IHRM Chairman, Mr. Elijah Sitima, presented analysis on the current skills gap in the market and the challenges faced by HR practitioners in Kenya.
Mr. Cook shared some practical solutions to these challenges, including changes to current learning and development methods. He also focused on the need to invest in middle managers in Kenya through mentoring, coaching and on-the-job peer-based learning initiatives.
There was a lively debate and by the end of the evening, there was consensus on the important role that blended learning can play in bridging the management gap.
