“It wasn’t what I expected – I have to admit that I wasn’t looking forward to wasting another day in training, but what we did was incredibly helpful” – Area Manager, Pie City Johannesburg.
Pie City, a large food retailer in South Africa, recently embarked on a journey to transform the management of their stores nation-wide. They were looking for a practical solution which would equip their team with the tools they need to manage their store network more effectively. AMI worked with them to design a 3-month programme, a combination of in-person workshops (‘Learning Labs’) and online courses, to focus on the key management skills they identified as critical to their success.
In the above picture, we can see the Johannesburg group engaging in an interactive Learning Lab and learning influencing skills – how to get people to do things without needing to constantly be barking out orders. The day was filled with exercises led by Klara Michal, AMI’s Chief Learning Officer, where managers had to practice communicating, having challenging conversations, engaging team members, etc. Participants were able to present real-life situation in the session and apply the tools in practical and meaningful ways.
Everyone at Pie City is excited about this new initiative, and we look forward to working with them to transform what great management should look like in South Africa!
